"Porte Rouge"
Acrylic on 16in x 20in x .75in canvas, 2024.
“Porte Rouge (Red Door)”
There's a moment when we stand at the threshold of something new.
A red door, bold and unyielding, beckoning us to step through.
This painting holds that moment: a passage into the unknown, wrapped in quiet protection. The composition explores themes of transition and courage, using the red door as both literal and metaphorical gateway.
The figure sits in contemplation before this threshold, surrounded by abstract elements that suggest both memory and possibility. Bold geometric forms contrast with softer, more organic shapes, creating a visual dialogue between certainty and mystery.
Working with rich acrylics and varied textures, I built layers that speak to the complexity of crossing into new territory. The red door anchors the piece while fragments of pattern and color swirl around it, suggesting the thoughts and emotions that accompany major life transitions.
Perfect for spaces that honor transformation: sophisticated entryways, contemplative studies, or any room that celebrates life's pivotal moments. She brings both grounding presence and forward momentum to contemporary interiors.
Part of my ongoing exploration of thresholds and the courage required to step into the unknown.
